Privacy Policy
Last updated September 9, 2026
Trug is built to run entirely on your own device. This policy explains, in plain language, what that means for your data.
Information We Collect
Trug collects no data from you, and nothing you enter into the app is sent to us or to any server we operate. Trug has no account system, no sign-up, and no backend of any kind.
Everything you create in Trug — plants, environments, photos, care logs, and sensor history — is stored locally on your device, in a private container that only Trug and its companion widget can read. We never see it, and we have no way to access it.
Depending on which optional features you turn on, Trug may also read:
- HomeKit accessories — if you link a thermometer, hygrometer, light, or CO₂ sensor, Trug reads its readings directly from Apple's HomeKit framework and stores them on your device. HomeKit access is off until you explicitly enable it, and this data never leaves your device.
- Photos — if you choose to save an in-app camera photo to your Photos library, Trug writes it to a dedicated "Trug" album using add-only permission. Trug never reads your existing photo library.
- Notifications — reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Trug does not use a push notification service.
Information Usage
Because Trug doesn't collect or transmit your information, there is nothing for us to use, sell, or share. Any exports you create (CSV or ZIP files of your plants, environments, or sensor history) are written to a destination you choose — such as Files or AirDrop — and only go where you send them.
Apple may separately provide us with aggregate, anonymized App Store analytics (such as download counts). This is controlled entirely by Apple's own privacy practices and is outside of Trug's control.
Accessing, Changing, or Deleting Information
Since your data lives only on your device, you're always in full control of it. You can edit or delete any plant, environment, log entry, or photo directly within Trug. Deleting the app removes its local data, including anything mirrored into a "Trug" Photos album, unless you've separately kept a copy elsewhere (for example, an exported CSV/ZIP file or photos saved outside the app).
California Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance
We comply with the California Online Privacy Protection Act. Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, we do not distribute personal information to outside parties, and there is no information for California users to opt out of.
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance
Trug is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age, since the app collects no information at all.
Information for European Union Customers
Trug does not collect, process, or transfer any personal data as defined by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). All data you create stays on your own device, so there is no personal data for us to act as a controller or processor over.
Your Consent
By using Trug, you consent to this privacy policy.
Changes to This Policy
If we decide to change this privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page. Continued use of Trug after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
